The singer-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham has risked the wrath of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with her new bag collection made from crocodile, lizard and calf skins and the animal rights organisation are now said to be planning drastic action to make their feelings known to the star.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "PETA have been on Victoria's back for weeks sending email after email. But it's not as if Victoria is going to the Everglades and strangling the crocs with her bare hands.

"One of the ideas being mooted is that Victoria gets covered in a bucket of animal blood - cow or lizard - at her next UK public appearance.

"Another rather sick suggestion was to pelt crocodile feet at her when she goes to an editor's lunch in London next month. Victoria tries not to surround herself with bodyguards but her security has had to be increased."

Victoria's friends believe the star - who is designing the bags with accessories designer Katie Hillier- is a victim of her own success as her rising profile in the fashion world leaves her open to attacks from groups looking for maximum publicity.

Victoria Beckham is infuratied over reports that she is importing and abusing diet pills.

The source said: "PETA know she is high profile and that whatever stunt they pull will garner mass publicity. The fact her bags were so well received at her recent showcase in New York has simply given them more incentive."

Victoria's spokeswoman denied accusations of cruelty and said the British star ensured she adhered to all regulations.

She said: "As with all Victoria Beckham products, the handbags are made to the highest quality and design. These skins sit strictly within the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species regulations and are monitored at every step of production."

Victoria Beckham has been matchmaking for Kelly Brook.

The former Spice Girls singer-turned fashion designer - who has three sons, Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, eight, and five-year-old Cruz, with husband David Beckham - is keen to set the stunning actress up on a few dates as she knows how lonely life can be in Hollywood.

A source close to Los Angeles-based Victoria told the Daily Star newspaper: "Victoria knows how lucky she and David are. She'd hate to date, especially in Los Angeles, so she's offering some sisterly support to Kelly.

"They've met a few times but really bonded during a string of fashion shows. They share a very cheeky sense of humour and get on really well.

"Victoria saw Kelly and felt really bad for her being thrust back into the dating game. She's apparently got David checking out all his mates and has some crackers lined up for Kelly. It's tough in Hollywood and a girl needs a mate."

However, Kelly - who split from rugby player Danny Cipriani in June - isn't keen on starting a new relationship and just wants to have fun as she attempts to launch her career in Hollywood.

An insider said: "Kelly's not ready for a relationship, she's going into it with an open mind.

"But she's thinking she'll meet new people, she's really looking forward to meeting Victoria's girlfriends, too. She thinks Victoria is a diamond."
