Anne Hathaway's former boyfriend Raffaello Follieri was sentenced to four and a half years in prison in 2008 after pleading guilty to cheating investors out of millions of dollars. The actress recently spoke about her struggle in the aftermath of their split following the fraud investigation.
Admitting it had left her “very wary,” she added: "It takes a minute for me to let my guard down, but once I do and I get to know someone, I'm very open, very trusting. Some might say too trusting."
Although jewelry given to Hathaway by her ex-boyfriend was auctioned off by U.S. authorities in June, she can now joke about her ordeal. When asked to name her "deal-breakers" with men, she replied, "Uh ... fraud?"
The brunette beauty also revealed that filming her new movie Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal proved therapeutic because it helped her to confront her feelings.
Speaking about the trust theme in the movie, she told Vogue magazine: "I was a wreck from start to finish. I think I cried every single day."
Raffaello is not the only one of Anne’s boyfriends who has been in trouble with the law. Actor Adam Shulman, whom she has been dating since 2008, escaped criminal charges earlier this year when he agreed to return a valuable painting he took from a street artist.
